A – H
Hydrogen Antioxidant.
Selective antioxidant
A molecule that neutralizes only harmful free radicals (OH·, ONOO-) without affecting ROS useful for cellular signaling. This is the key property of H₂ (Ohsawa 2007).
DPD (test)
Reference colorimetric method to measure the concentration of dissolved hydrogen in water. DPD reagent + color chart · reading in 30 seconds. Complete instructions on the protocol page.
SPE/PEM Electrolysis
H₂ production method using a proton exchange membrane (Solid Polymer Electrolyte / Proton Exchange Membrane). No chlorine, no residual metal ions.
Free Radical Research
Peer-reviewed scientific journal, indexed in PubMed. A reference in studies on free radicals and antioxidants · H₂ has been regularly published there since 2008 (LeBaron 2019).
Molecular hydrogen (H₂)
Colorless, odorless gas, the smallest molecule. Diatomic. Studied since 2007 for its selective antioxidant and oxidative stress modulating effects. Several hundred studies published.

Pt-Ir Inflammation.
Systemic inflammation
Diffuse inflammatory state · without localized focus · elevated markers (CRP, IL-6). Associated with chronic oxidative stress. Research explores the link between H₂ and oxidative stress (Kajiyama 2008).
MDA (malondialdehyde)
Biological marker of lipid peroxidation. Increases under oxidative stress. A study (Kajiyama 2008, Nutrition Research) observed a decrease in this marker — a result observed in the study, not an individual promise.
OH· (hydroxyl radical)
The most reactive and damaging free radical in the body. Damages DNA, lipids, and proteins. Main target of H₂ (Ohsawa 2007).
PPB (Parts Per Billion)
Concentration unit: parts per billion. Concentration advertised by the manufacturer for HYDROGENYX Flask: up to ~9,000 PPB, or 9 mg/L of dissolved H₂ — verifiable with the DPD test (protocol).
Pt-Ir (Platinum-Iridium)
Alloy used as an electrode in the SPE/PEM cell. 4th generation at HYDROGENYX · covered by 5-year cell warranty, DPD control (warranty).
R – V
ROS at VO2max.
ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species)
Reactive Oxygen Species. Normal product of metabolism · some useful (signaling), some harmful (OH·). H₂ targets harmful ones, spares useful ones (Ohsawa 2007).
Saturation
Maximum dissolved H₂ concentration plateau. Approximately ~9,000 PPB with SPE/PEM at 25 °C (manufacturer's data). Beyond this: marginal gain.
Stress oxydatif
Imbalance between ROS production and the body's antioxidant capacity. One of the most studied areas in H₂ literature — see the 7 studies.
DPD Verification
At HYDROGENYX, concentration is verifiable with the DPD reagent — the reference colorimetric method: a few drops, the water changes color, the level is read. DPD kit available online (~€20) for home verification: 5-step protocol.
VO2 max
Maximum volume of oxygen consumed during exercise. An indicator of aerobic performance. A study (Ostojic 2014, athletes) observed stability of VO2max under chronic fatigue.
