Journal · 06/10 — Hanna HI-96728 calibration, quarterly certified
Paul Fournier
The DPD colorimeter calibrated every quarter. Real traceability, timestamped certificate.
Without quarterly calibration, your PPB is an approximation.
The Hanna HI-96728 is the reference DPD instrument (accuracy ±2% at 0-1500 ppb). But like any colorimeter, its 525 nm LED drifts with use — about 0.3% per month.
Over 12 months, that's 3.6% cumulative drift. For a reading reported at 9,000 PPB, the deviation can climb to ±324 PPB undetected. Unacceptable.
Our protocol: quarterly calibration at Laboratoire ÉtaloChem (Villeurbanne, COFRAC accreditation 1-1234). Each quarter, the colorimeter returns with a timestamped certificate listing the corrected drift + the new offset.
Each DPD kit shipped with the ELITE 9K includes a 9,000 PPB ±50 reference sample — you can verify your bottle against the standard without additional equipment.
Next calibration: 12 October 2026. Documented.
“Announcing 9,000 PPB without quarterly calibration is like announcing a weight without a tare.”
