The concentration is verifiable with DPD reagent, the reference colorimetric method: a few drops, the water changes color, the level is read.

Procedure

5 steps · 8 minutes.

  1. Prepare the water

    Filtered water (Brita or similar) at room temperature (20–25 °C). Fill HYDROGENYX Flask up to the mark · not too much, not too little.

  2. Electrolysis

    ON button · LED flashes for 7 minutes during SPE/PEM electrolysis (4th generation Platinum-Iridium cell). Do not open, do not shake. Vertical position.

  3. Payment

    Pour immediately 50 mL into a transparent glass. H₂ escapes in a few minutes · measure quickly.

  4. DPD Test

    Dip a DPD strip for 5 seconds. Shake once to remove excess. Wait 30 seconds for the color reaction.

  5. Reading

    Compare the strip's color to the kit's color chart. Read in natural light. Result in PPB. Note: this is also your reference for the 5-year cell warranty.

Tips

For a reliable measurement.

Filtered Water

Tap water contains residual chlorine, which interferes with DPD. Always use filtered water (pitcher, reverse osmosis).

Triplicate

Take 3 successive measurements with 3 test strips and keep the average: it smooths out reading discrepancies.

Avoiding Bias

Do not measure after shaking the bottle · H₂ escapes. Pour gently. Measure within 60 seconds.

Which DPD kit should I buy?

A DPD reagent colorimetric kit with a color chart, available online for around €20. Check that it is designed for dissolved hydrogen (scale in PPB or mg/L).

Why does my measurement vary?

Water temperature, agitation, time before reading: H₂ escapes quickly. Measure within 60 seconds, without shaking, and average 3 strips.
