NF-κB: The conductor of chronic inflammation

The transcription factor NF-κB (Nuclear Factor kappa B) is the main coordinator of the inflammatory response in all your cells. Under normal conditions, it is sequestered in the cytoplasm by its inhibitory protein IκB. When oxidative stress occurs, IκB is degraded, NF-κB migrates to the nucleus, and activates 150+ inflammatory genes.

The problem in winter

In winter, hydroxyl radicals (•OH) increase due to thermal stress, decreased vitamin D, and lack of light. These radicals continuously activate NF-κB. Result: low-grade inflammation, elevated ultrasensitive CRP, joint discomfort, decreased mental clarity.

How H₂ modulates

A study (Itoh et al., 2009, Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications), conducted on an experimental model, observed a reduction in NF-κB activation of approximately 47% under induced oxidative stress conditions (results observed in the study – not a promise of individual results). Proposed mechanism: H₂ selectively neutralizes •OH, the radical that degrades IκB. Without •OH, IκB is preserved, NF-κB remains sequestered.

In practice

Winter = oxidative increase + NF-κB activation. Strategy: selectively neutralize •OH (H₂) rather than the entire ROS cascade (massive vitamin C). A common wellness routine combines vitamin D and an H₂ ritual (~750 mL/day at 9,000 PPB, concentration announced by the manufacturer and DPD-controlled per batch) to support comfort during winter.
