Ichihara et al. 2015: H₂ Cochrane review
Paul Fournier
— WEEKLY EDITION · FRIDAY JULY 31 —
A review synthesizing 8 years of research.
Ichihara et al. (2015, Medical Gas Research) — systematic review of 321 peer-reviewed studies on molecular hydrogen published between 2007 and 2015. It's the field's reference synthesis.
Methodology: PRISMA criteria, inclusion only of studies with validated H₂ quantification (DPD or equivalent), exclusion of pure in vitro studies without physiological model.
Main conclusions: 166 pathological conditions where H₂ shows significant biological effect, 9,000 PPB threshold recurrent as therapeutic target, no serious side effects reported across 8 cumulative years of human studies.
Limit identified by Ichihara: «insufficient large-scale randomized controlled trials». Still true in 2026 — few phase III studies. Science is advancing.
321 Studies compiled · 166 Conditions studied · 0 Serious effects reported
«Ichihara is still cited as the meta-reference. For us, it's proof that we're not navigating in the void.»
